What is Iris Pseudacorus?
De Iris Pseudacorus, in het Nederlands bekend als Gele lis, mag, naast Kalmoes, eigenlijk niet ontbreken in het helofytenfilter of plantenfilter. Zoals de andere helophytes, kan de Gele lis veel voedingsstoffen uit het water te halen en dan vooral nitraten. Deze vijverplant maakt een groot wortelstelsel aan. Er worden hiermee veel voedingsstoffen uit het water gehaald. Hierdoor kunnen algen minder goed groeien. En dat is niet het enige voordeel van deze oeverplant. Medio mei geeft deze oeverplant namelijk mooie gele bloemen, welke een waar plaatje zijn!

The nutrients absorbed by the plant are no longer available to the algae. To ensure that nutrients are absorbed faster, it is possible to plant this helophyte in lava peat. This is called a helophyte filter or plant filter. Combined with a good pump that pumps the water through the lavasplit, the water is actively purified.
Of course, it is also possible to plant this riparian plant in pond baskets or plant it in perennial soil.

The Yellow Lis is common in the wild in the Netherlands. If you see them, they are often many together along a water feature. They usually stand out because of the beautiful yellow flowers. This plant is hardy and overwinters on rhizomes that are underground.
