Fontinalis Antipyretica

What is Fontinalis Antipyretica?

Fontinalis Antipyretica, better known as Spring moss. Spring moss, as the name actually suggests, comes from flowing, clear and cold water that comes from springs and flows into small streams and rivulets. Spring moss mainly comes from central and northern Europe, where there is plenty of clear water, especially in mountain streams. In the Netherlands, this plant is also only found in standing water for this reason. Otherwise, you will most likely not find this plant in our waters. Especially in nutrient-poor water, you will rarely find this oxygen plant.

Fontinalis Antipyretica Properties

  • Position: Semi-shaded.
  • Planting depth: between 20 and 80 centimetres.
  • Substrate: Not necessary; this is not a rooting plant.
  • This plant has no mandatory requirements, but appreciates hard and nutrient-rich water.

Fontinalis Antipyretica in your Pond

Spring moss is an excellent plant for your pond. This oxygen plant grows fairly quickly and removes all necessary nutrients from the water immediately, making it a formidable competitor for algae. The lack of these nutrients will reduce algae growth and keep your pond clearer. Bronmos' green leaves also provide extra oxygen to your pond. Bronmos is also a good friend of your pond inhabitants. Fish and amphibians like to lay their eggs there. This is because it seals off prey animals very nicely.

If you want to place your spring moss in still or weakly flowing water, the plant will offer more as a floating plant. Spring moss is able to attach itself to stones, among other things. Of course, you can give the spring moss a helping hand by attaching it to a stone with a string. This way, you have a ground cover that actually stays on the ground and it creates a beautiful dark green underwater landscape.
