What is Egeria Crispa?
Egeria Crispa or Cruciferous Waterweed is a relative of Egeria Densa, Brazilian Waterweed. This submerged aquatic plant can be found in the Netherlands in some places in ditches or canals. Originally, this species is not native to the Netherlands. However, in our climate this oxygen plant survives without any problems. This makes it a hardy oxygen plant. However, it is a prerequisite that this water plant is deep enough. 60-80 cm is a good size.
For the pond, this species is a good choice. This is because it grows extremely fast. The advantage of this characteristic for your pond is that it gives algae less chance to grow, as they use the same nutrients. In addition, this aquatic plant is able to extract nutrients directly from the water. So can algae. This property thus provides additional competition over floating algae and filamentous algae.

What does egeria crispa look like?
The curled or curled leaves give the name to this Waterweed species. These downward curled leaves are up to 2-3 centimetres long and are attached to sturdy stems. This makes it look a bit like a tube under water, especially from somewhat deeper in the pond this is a beautiful sight. The different stems then grow up from the baskets in different lengths. A nice sight in the pond!
How to plant egeria crispa?
This species grows best when planted in a basket. It is then also a little more manageable than when it floats loose in the pond.
4-5 bunches per 1000 litres of pond volume are recommended to compete with algae as much as possible.
