It is one of the biggest oxygen producers in pond water. It is also a formidable competitor to algae, as they both need the same nutrients. Clear water without an abundance of floating algae is within reach.<\/p><p>These aquatic plants are not native to the Netherlands but to North America. After first conquering England, by the early 20th century the plant could be found in just about all of Europe. Unfortunately, this species is now declining; the deterioration of general water quality in the Netherlands is to blame. By the way, not to be confused with Narrow Waterweed.
