It is an exotic species that entered Dutch ditches and ponds via ponds and aquaria. This species occurs in the wild in various places in the Netherlands. This species can survive our winters if deep enough in the water.\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">This aquatic plant does well in the pond. Because it grows very quickly, it competes with algae. The fact that it directly removes nutrients from the water also helps.
