Crucified waterweed

Crucified waterweed

Crucified Waterweed (Egeria Crispa) is a submerged aquatic plant, or oxygen plant. It is an exotic species that entered Dutch ditches and ponds via ponds and aquaria. This species occurs in the wild in various places in the Netherlands. This species can survive our winters, provided it is deep enough in the water.

This aquatic plant does well in the pond. Because it grows very quickly, it competes with algae. The fact that it directly removes nutrients from the water also helps. Incidentally, this applies to all waterweed species.

Please note that this species may no longer be sold due to changed legislation. This is because this plant is an invasive exotic and can potentially displace native species. Do you have this plant in your pond and want to get rid of it? Then dispose of it via the waste bin and make sure it does not end up in the wild.
